At the recent SES New York event, WebProNews spoke with Jeff Ferguson of Napster on his thoughts on TwitterHawk and the community reponse he’s had with it.

Guy recently (Tuesday March 24, 2009) spoke at Search Engine Strategies in New York City.

Guy revealed the way in which he is staying atop the crowd on Twitter and earning his massive following through hard work… with a little help from some select apps.

At about the 44 minute mark, he explains for what, and how he uses TwitterHawk.

Possibly the most targeted marketing there is…

Helping you find people like you, near you.

TwitterHawk

Let’s say you just opened a new coffee store in Queens and wanted to let people know about it. As part of your advertising efforts, you could setup TwitHawk to search for things like “coffee near:Queens within:8mi” (of course you could simply search world wide if you are global).

We would then periodically (at a frequency determined by you) find twitter posts that mentioned coffee by users that are actually located within 8 miles of Queens such as
‘@cracksh0t Oh I could really go for a coffee right now’ or
‘@loxly Coffee… my one true love’

Depending on how you set your search up, the system will then either send the response automatically right then, or it will add it to your matches list for you to check over and confirm.

Should there be a match for coffee on something like ‘@coffeeh8r I cannot stand coffee!!!’ you can simply remove this from your matches list!

Recently interviewed by Aliza Sherman of Web Worker Daily at SXSW… here’s what Guy had to say about my app.

What’s Your Favorite App, Guy Kawasaki? from WebWorkerDaily on Vimeo.

I have no idea how I haven’t mentioned this at all yet on my blog… I guess I’ve just been spending too much time actually working on it to do anything else really!
I created a new Twitter app a couple of weeks back called TwitterHawk (www.twitterhawk.com)

It had an incredible launch, with Guy Kawasaki of all people promoting it through his own Twitter account. Immediately there was a mass surgence in hits over that weekend, and it took no time at all to get over a thousand registered users, and about 14’000 tweets sent out to date.

Guy has also mentioned the app at a few talks / conferences / expos in Silicon valley, the only one I have my hands on so far is the below talk at JellyTalks. (head to about the 13 minute mark)

There’s also been a huge amount of press related to the app that has popped up very quickly, which you can see at www.twitterhawk.com/press

It’s back on again, the annual Triple J Hottest 100, with the count down on Australia day.
As usual it was tough for me to pick only 10 songs in the end had to cull a lot from my list, should have thought earlier to keep a record of them but only thought that with 5 left to cull. So here’s what I ended up with…

(in alphabetical order)

Drapht – Jimmy Recard
Flight Of The Conchords – Hiphopopotamus Vs Rhymenoceros
Herd, The – The King Is Dead
Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire
Laura Marling – Ghosts
Living End, The – White Noise
Lykke Li – Let It Fall
Pez – The Festival Song
Santogold – Say Aha
TZU – Computer Love

The last 5 to be cut out were:

Architecture In Helsinki – That Beep
Ash Grunwald – The Devil Called Me A Liar
Dizzee Rascal + Calvin Harris – Dance Wiv Me
Herd, The – Zug Zug
Sigur Ros – Gobbledigook

Can’t believe I haven’t dubbed it lnl 2.0 until now!
Anyway, after starting over 2 years ago (granted it’s been done in spurts, not 2 solid years of development) the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to shine brighter than ever.

LNL 2.0 update

The majority if the work for the admin suite is complete, there’s just one more section remaining, then the ability fir bands and artists to add their own gigs… That will be interesting!
Apart from that a lot of bugs have been fixed up in the front end, but the majority of work there won’t be completed until the design is confirmed.
If anyone wants to see a sneak peak let me know and I’ll see what I can do.
